I like to play the Diamatic cause it's dynomite! And it ca go
yyeeerrraaaoooowwwhhhh. or hhhwwwooooaaarrreeeyy and the chrotonic can't.
The hard part like so many have pointed out already is getting that eee or
the ooo part of yeeerrraaaoooowwwhhhh in tune. Those chrotonics do that
pretty easy. I like chrotonics though and I especially like what Elizabeth
said.
You know the whole part the E rocker said about how the Diamatic guys like
the chrotonic players but not vice-versa....that's the same usually with
modern blues players vs. traditional one. The modern guys almost always
really dig all the old guys and have or can played that style really
seriously before. Yet for some reason it's not the same the other way.
Hmmmm.... The reason is always just plain fear. All this stuff is normal and
really conducive to learning and advancing. It's going to make chro players
work harder to be more exciting and expressive and make short harp guys more
disciplined in intonation and theory etc... I know this stuff is out there
and I deal with way more repulsive prejudices in 21st century every day
being a gay man then the whole diamatic issue. After you worry about getting
the back of your head bashed in with a brick, or doing a double take every
time a pick up truck makes a u-turn, Or watching Matthew Sheppard's funeral
get picketed by a organization called "God hates Fags"( which has contacted
me) or getting death threats through our own beloved harp l where the guy
actually shows up at my show the whole diamatic issue kind of seems a little
trivial to me (we took care of the threat thing it on Harp l and off thanks
FJM). but this stuff does matter none the less and feelings get hurt but
over all it all comes out in the wash every time and everyone's a better
player for it! So I just walk around SPAH and dig myself and all the other
cats too. By the way there's no better or faster way to send something into
extinction then to infer that it needs preservation. Just a little marketing
tool for the masses. Now go listen to some Charles Wright and Express
yourself
