I haven't tried it, but I'm not so sure about swelling resulting from soaking unsealed wood combs in acetone or high purity alcohol. Seems to me that shrinkage might be more likely. I'll bet neither wouldt be good for the sealant on the sealed variety. Acetone and high concentration alcohol will dissolve a lot of things that aren't water soluble. Like I said, I haven't tried it so it's all untested hypothesis at this point.

The archive search is a good idea. But, you might just pick yourself up
a brand new harp with a plastic comb since cleanliness is important to
you - then, the method of soaking the harp will be a lot less damaging.

Tony Glover used to recommend soaking a harp in vodka though... but that
was when brand new harps cost very little.
