too much, Garry.  love that Good Old Grateful Dead (especially Pig.)  As a matter of fact, the Dead's influence (in my formative years) introduced me to a lot of great blues (among other things)... Gus Cannon (Jug Stompers w/ Noah Lewis,) Rev. Gary Davis, Bobby Bland, etc.

i was perusing the forums at archive.org, and someone had
put together a "best of pigpen" list, with favorite versions of
various songs listed by date.  i poked around a little, and
found that almost all of them were on the archive.  i thought
i'd post it here, since i know some of you are fans, and there's 
harp on some of the tracks.

pigpen was a member of the early grateful dead,
on keyboards, harp, and vocals.  he was no little walter,
but his harp playing was solid, and effective, fitting the
music well.  he was also the embodiment of the dead's 
greasy biker blues image, a persona that died with him
in 1973(?).  check out the first track, "good mornin' little
schoolgirl" for a taste.

i chose to go with vbr mp3 files for this list, as a good
tradeoff between file size and sound quality.  they're
probably all available in 64kb mp3 (smaller, lower quality)
or shn (bigger, high quality) as well, if you just change
the "_vbr.mp3" part of the urls.  despite their age (all
over 30 years old) the sound quality is excellent.  the
archive really is a national treasure.
