Mel Lyman played with the Jim Kweskin Jug Band along with Jeff & Maria (Damato) Muldaur, Fritz Richmond on washtub bass, Bill Keith on banjo. They were part of the Fort Hill commune in Roxbury. Lyman became sort of a cult figure guru until a schism turned it bad.
Taj Mahal played the Club 47. I think he was at U Mass Amherst around the same time as Buffy St Marie and Natalie Cole.
