Re: [Harp-L] Historical perspective of harp-l

With this discussion of harp-l history, it is worth mentioning a capability
which should exist, but, as far as I can see, does not. This is a decent
search capability within the harp-l archive. It is possible to enter a
search term, wait while Yahoo chugs through a few weeks postings (you can
almost hear the wheels grinding), then look at the posts. Going back any
distance is tedious, and requires patience and many mouse clicks. For this
reason, past knowledge is essentially locked away, and hence the same
questions recycle: custom instruments, jam etiquette, valve substitution,
overblows etc.

Given the vast store of shared knowledge in the harp-l archive, it would be
great to be able to access it easily. For example, a Google like search
capability, which returns pre-calculated results, would help unlock this
resource. Perhaps one could download the whole lot (is it possible to do
this?), then get Google to search your own machine, which it can now do, and
hence make the corporate harp-l history available.
