Anybody try this wireless? It only works on on frequency, which I understand can be an issue. Is it reliable? How does it change the tone?
It doesn't appear from the archives that there are a ton of wireless users. Even fewer interested in an xlr snap on. Anybody actually use any wireless system ?

Hurricane sez :
First off , lets get to the first guy who is credited with using a wireless mic set up with a musical instrument and that person is the great :
" Big Jay McNeely " , he's the man !

The following data will enlighten you on this topic , it's thorough :)

And this URL below also ,

It's ( Roland/Boss WS20 ) what I own and have used it since the mid 90's and it's a work horse and it ain't cheap too , I guard it like a hawk !
Bottom line is a good one will cost ya bucks and the first URL above will explain it better and clearer than I can . All I have to say is a cheap one will drive you nuts . As you can see , the second URL shows a unit with 2 antenna - - it's a must to have a unit like this whether it's a VHF , UHF, of a FM like mine . The " Wireless Diversity System " , read and learn brothers & sisters .
With mine I can be outside a building and be heard inside as I get an introduction from the band and then I come in playing , heh , heh , heh . I tested it and walked close to a quarter mile from the receiver and it still came in loud and clear .
Mike , you were asking about how it affects " tone " , well , face it man , no matter what you do electronically in regards to sound there can be changes to the tone as it goes from one device to another , and , all things being equal , it depends on the electronics used so - - garbage in garbage out - - is the factor to be considered .
I can only comment about my Boss WS20 and what it does to my
" tone "
Since I love it
" sweet and warm "
as opposed to
" squawk and icy " .
This unit ( Roland/Boss WS20T ) suits me and my " style " with it's own DBX noise reduction system perfectly , which , to some it takes away to much of the " edge " of the Astatic squawk . I personally noticed no degradation , only a " modification " to the sound and it was a good modification at that in my opinion .
Beside doing the Chicago side of sound , I also like the " birth of cool " and the hot sound of Louis Armstrong's trumpeting that I can do with my diatonic any time with or with out it . Country Western music is superb on it too as well as hispanic stuff I do as well . I do not think it has any limitations or colors the sound adversily at all period .
In short , plan to spend some cash for a good system whether it's a FM , UHF or VHF wireless system . I paid $450.00 back in 1993 so that should give you a good picture on what your facing :):
In conclusion :
Never ever in playing my wireless did I get a less that wild , positive and enthusiastic reaction when :
I walked the bar top .
Or :
Came in from outside the nightclub , or walked off the stage and then sat next to a patron and played to them while the band cooked on-stage .
Good Luck Mike , hope you get one that gives you as much as the one I have used for over 10 years now .
I have one great story of " Bubba Johnson " a Chicago veteran sax performer who worked at " Milt Trainer's " night club near the loop , anyone who want's to read about it write me . It's a great story of a magic night I had at Milt's in 1994 with Milt & Bubba Johnson and how he got the gig at Milt's as the music director when he used a wire less and got arrested on a public buss just outside Milt's night club , it's a classic .
Anyone who knows about the Trainer Bros. is an old timer ! heh heh . Those Brothers are in Louie Jordan's league . The Trainers & Louie Jordan are important to me , Rock-N-Roll got invented plain and simply put by these giants and others like them I can not remember or new of from the mid to late 1940's .
Sincerely :
Hurricane Ramón
