Bostic was ahead of time mostly with his approach to
the jump material which was really a proto-rock & roll
style, but he was also extremely musically talented.
You can hear parts of his classical training come out
in a few of his very early jumpers with his big band.
In addition to this, his technique of playing well
beyond the range of his preferred horn (alto) was also
ahead of his time.
