[Harp-L] New piece for blues harmonica and Chinese Orchestra

The harmonica community should celebrate a new (and unusual) piece written for the blues harmonica, percussion instruments and orchestra of Chinese musical instruments. The name of the piece is "Musique du Milk Shake", composed by Dr. Chan Ming-chi of Hong Kong. It is commissioned by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and was premiered on 20 May in Hong Kong Cultural Centre, the harmonica soloist being Jimmy Chan of Hong Kong.

The premiere recording can be heard online:

2nd hour 23:30-38:10

The music was commissioned for Le French May, as part of the activities of the Year of France in China. The inspiration was drawn from the thriving scene of the artists gathered outside le Centre de Georges Pompidou in Paris. The atmosphere is like the parades in temple fairs in China.

The music is divided into 4 parts:
1. The Shake Ballads of the Street Entertainers
2. Moonlight and Starlight Blues
3. The Zany Spider Has Wrapped Its Web on the Twigs of the Tree
4. Dance Music of Jang Geum

Enjoy!
