Re: [Harp-L] Extended thoughts on extened solos
Interesting that most people (at least those who posted) seem to be in
favour of shorter solos or jam format but that in fact Chris notes that more
CDs are sold after a long solo.
Perhaps:
a) A few people really got off on Chris's ability, enough to make a
difference in sales.
b) Chris's long solos are better (more entertaining, more live) than his
composed tunes or his shorter improvisation.
Note that Chris may play better when he really lets loose.
I think that when a band lets loose (jam format) or a capable soloist lets
loose, it turns a concert (formal kind of uptight prepared thing) into a
show. Its the kind of thing that usually cannot be bottled and that you wish
you would never forget.
These are the very best shows (provided the artist deliver the goods).
Pierre.
