Roy Buchanan.  Pete's Blues jumps to mind.  That Sweet Dreams Anthology is quite a compilation.

I was just wondering who you think really does a great job on long solos and maybe recording recommendations.

Two I can think of for me are Mike Bloomfield and Mike Stern, but I think it's only them in combination with a rocking band. I usually don't stay interested for more than a couple of minutes.
