[Harp-L] Greetings

Hello everyone I just signed up to this forum and it is so nice to hear all of your thought and really talk harp. I think I piss everyone off around me when I go on and on about harp playing and players. They call me Shrimp Daddy and I play out of Toronto Canada. I would love to play long solo's but I think I might end up stabbed by a statocaster. I do enjoy a great long harp solo, I'm thinking of Butterfield on "driftin and driftin" whallin on the Eb, what a tone! Thank God he wasn't scared to showcase and solo. It's, I guess, as was said before, if it comes out of your soul and you've got something to share that's pouring out of you, that can even make you tear up while your playing it, that just can't be beat or boring.

Subject: [Harp-L] Monk Alters Chi

HI Ya'll (as we say here in the south)
Got a nice surprise last week. Chris Mikalek sent me his CD "Monk Alters Chi". I had a pre production copy that he gave me at SPAH last year but the paper label and my CD Players did not want to play nice so I never got to hear it. I have read some positive and negative press about this project, but it was great to hear it for myself since reviewers often use BIG words which I have to look up. At first blush, this body of work seems unattainable for most of us mortals on our instrument. However, that's exactly what I found I liked best about this CD. I tried to look at how I could expand my horizons inside the style of music I've chosen. His tone and vibrato are certainly among the most polished you will hear. And to write so many interesting instrumentals is a stand alone achievement. Just to bring a project to the retail stage is a labor of love in itself. My feeling is that weather you like the CD or not (and I do) we should all tip our hats to Chris and anyone else who undertakes this kind of project. Nice job Chris.
