[Harp-L] Another convention idea: radio spots by performers at the convention

Phil started a musing about possibly putting on a harmonica contest at
the convention as one of the activities as a manner of producing
enough excitement at the convention to encourage the media and the
general public to avail themselves of the opportunities the convention
provides to meet the real harmonica world while the convention is in
town.

Another proposal (if it is not already being done):  Ask the
performers at SPAH (and any attendee that might be interesting) to
visit a radio show (according to his genre) to briefly discuss the
convention and, perhaps, play a tune or two (preferably during drive
times when people are most likely to be listening to the radio).  It
would not be a requirement, but it would produce exposure for the
artist and the convention that might get the convention a little more
notice.  The local club hosting the convention should be the ones
helping to set up the radio spots and matching them with performers
because they know their town and airwaves better than anyone else. 
They can make sure blues players end up on blues stations, country on
country stations, classical on classical stations, etc.  For many of
the performers, this may be one of the few opportunities that a
harmonica player could wangle his way onto a radio show in prime time
so that the public knows who he is and where he will be for the next
couple of days.  The only thing left after that would be to make sure
there was at least one evening's shows that could be promoted as open
to the general public, just in case some of the general public does
bite at the bait dangled before them on the radio.
