Just got the above CD on Delmark. In case some of you
out there are not aware -- 8 of the 13 tracks include
LW (and Muddy Waters), recorded 1950 on Parkway,
before Chess had LW with Muddy. Great raw stuff!
Walter's harp on 5 tracks, vocals on 4, guitar on 3.
Other vocals of the eight are Baby Face Leroy Foster.
Rollin' and Tumblin' (Part 2) is a standout -- no
words just all of them moanin' like a pack of revved
up Blind Willie Johnson's!! Chess got Muddy to record
Rollin' and Tumblin' shortly after in an effort to
kill the Parkway record (according to the liner
notes).
The remaining 5 tracks feature Sunnyland Slim (all 5),
JB Lenoir (3), Robert Jr. Lockwood (2), and others.
Very cool stuff.
