Does an on/off switch have less of an impact on a mic's tone than a volume pot, or does it have an equivalent impact to a volume pot?
Thanks,
Russ
Hi Russ,
It partly depends on the value of the pot and the cartridge being used.in the mike. If you're using a mike with a crystal or ceramic element, which is ultra high impedance, and the correct pot value is at least 1 megaohm, and for CR/CM/dynamic, it is usually 500K ohms. The only thing is when you roll down the pot, you may notice some mids and highs lost, but your hearing my vary. The "Rod Piazza mod" is to get a low value capacitor so that when you roll th pot down, it will keep the mids and highs there like it was when the pot was all the way wide open.
