Re: [Harp-L] harps used in song??

Hi Tom

You've got the harps and positions exactly! The key things about the 1st position section is the tone shaping (by mouth cavity changes) and the staccato-funk attack. I know it's a cliche, but it takes practice. I was a 100% U-blocker at the time this came out and it felt so natural that in my little world-view I was sure that that was the key to playing it like Magic Dick <g>. The solo itself is pretty much "classic" Chicago-style 1st position riffing. It's just that Magic Dick's approach is especially bold and greasy - with a precisely worked out arrangement that shines a giant spotlight on his work. I'd be glad to help out with more details, if I can.

Cheers,
Staggerin' Jim
