he was using an SM-57 with a really good quality matching line

BTW, the quality of matching line transformers are NOT equal by a long
shot.
This means an impedence converter, right? Can u please tell where to get
good transformers for the Shure SM - 57 mic, and maybe where not to buy
them?
thanks.

Hi Ron,
Exactly!!!! These aren't to be confused with an adapter, and most any music
store or sound system company sells them. The best that I've seen are the
ones made by Shure and then maybe Switchraft. They shouldn't cost more than
$20.00 US at the most. The one you want will have an XLR female connection
at one end and a 1/4" phone plug at the end of it.
