It's pretty stupid if you ask me with the tools we have at our finger
tips today to write an encyclopedia about musical instruments and not
take the time to research each one. If this guy had bothered to look up
the harmonica by typing "harmonica" on google he could have found out a
great deal more info than classifying it as a toy. I wonder if this guy
has ever seen Brownie McGee play the kazoo that might give him a new
outlook on toys. The Mississippi Delta did more for music with a wire
nailed and stretched out on the side of a barn than this so called
encyclopedia of musical instruments will ever do. Isn't it funny how a
toy can get an entire crowd of people dancing or get them to be so quiet
you could hear a pin drop cause everybody is trying to hear the toy
being played acoustically or bring a tear to your eye because this
instruments can cry with more feeling than any voice could ever match.
My vent.

Some people who claim to know music really don't get out much. Although
perhaps they do get out but just don't appreciate what they hear. In the
case of an encyclopedia, the author(s) view should be a tad more open.
More than likely, this author was just completely ignorant of what has
been done on the instrument. How many people know what can be done on a
harmonica?
really only those who play and even then, there are players who do not
know Howard Levy, Larry Adler, Toots etc.
Pierre.
