Guys, this is a VERY important lesson!
I've been involved in various facets of the print media for nearly 15 years,
trust me on this: If you spoon feed info to music writers and editors, the
odds of them writing about your band/gig/CD/etc. SKYROCKET!!! I cannot
stress this enough. If you want to promote a gig of yours, track down any
and all writers who might be inclined to cover it -- give them a CD, an info
packet, PHOTOS ... anything you can. These folks love music but, in the end,
laziness often rules the day (hey, they were out covering a gig last night
and didn't get home till after 3, right?). So if, over their 11 a.m.
"morning" coffee, they see on their desk a packet of info on your band
complete with a couple nice pics -- voila! -- instant story. Gets their
editor off their back, promos your gig, readers get a nice story ......
everyone's happy. But this starts with YOU. If you don't make the effort,
readers get another lame story about the latest cheesy pop idol or
cowboy-hatted "country" singer with capped teeth and a tanning-booth tan.
