While there are 256 alterable effect areas, only 127 of them
are "user" area that can be stored. That's "only" 127. It's true
stereo, but some of the more processor-intensive effects are mono,
and you can bridge it mono, chain the two channels, or run separate
effects for the two channels. In addition to having a high dynamic
rage, it has an auto-level feature, and has separate input and
output level adjustments.
Unlike the harmonizer and the octave pedal, the Midiverb really
doesn't mind getting multiple pitches in it's input signal, and it
doesn't degrade accordingly, like those other two effects. You can
split the signal going in to polyphonic with the harmonizer or the
octave pedal (which can't be used together) and the Midiverb can
still do octaves or other effects.
I mentioned that I use a Midiverb as part of my setup. I have some
sound samples that I did a while back that show few of the effects
that I use the most, along with some other parts of my setup, to
vastly different ends:
* harmonizer (Digitech Vocalist VR)
* chorus/reverb (Alesis Midiverb)
* full solid state blend (PAiA TubeHead preamp)

* reverb (Alesis Midiverb)
* full tube blend (PAiA TubeHead preamp)

* envelope filter (Digitech Synth Wah pedal)
* reverb (Alesis Midiverb)

* octaver (Boss OC-2 pedal)
