Re: [Harp-L] Blues You-Know-Who

I've always contested that Popper's "problem" isn't that he can't, it's
just that he doesn't. I think he knows exactly what he's doing just
like Eddie Van Halen does. Most of us here probably can't do what he
does. Most of us wouldn't if we could. And there's probably a fair
number of us frustrated / jealous of what we perceive as "wasted"
talent.

I also think he's a good singer and an often poignant songwriter -
especially on the 1st BT album. I just can't stomach his solos anymore.

I am now backing out of what unfortunately could become another Popper
firestorm....hence the "he who must not be named" status, I guess....

A friend called me up last night to say that the "rock player who we do
not mention" was on Roseanne on Nick at Night. I turned it on and
enjoyed an old fashioned blues tune sung by John Goodman (this was
before he joined the Blues Brothers) with the rocker's well known band
playing backup. The rocker himself played normal, predictable 2nd
position blues at a pace much slower than his usual style. I thought
some of my fellow Harp-Lers might not know that this guy can indeed play
the blues quite competently. In fact, I've heard that he wrote
virtually all of the music for the Roseanne series, and that he appeared
on numerous episodes.
