Re: [Harp-L] Re: Sweet Sounds of Summer
Well actually it was BOTH that inspired them....Donnie & Downchild had some
original blues songs like "Shotgun Blues" and "Everything I Need,
Almost"....that Belushi and Ackroyd loved when they were still in
Canada.....
but then when Belushi was on location in the Portland-Eugene OR area
shooting "Animal House" he'd go out and hear Curtis Salgado and started to
hang with him and then got the idea for the Blues Brother vibe.....
the first Blues Brothers record is dedicated to Curtis! but they also
included the above tunes by Downchild on the same record.....must have been
a nice royalties check for them as the record was HUGE.-)
(When the Blues Brothers hit in the 80's, I must say I was a bit offended by
the "Jiveness" of it....but have come to realize that they were responsible
for exposing BLUES and R&B to a MASS audience that would have NEVER EVER
bought a Blues record.....that vibe worked it's way around the globe and
helped a lot of older AND younger Blues and R&B musicians make a living! )
Harp Content: when I play with the Original Blues Brothers Band I get a nice
3 Chorus feature on "Shotgun Blues".........a slow Blues in Bb

Seriously, for fans it's definitely historic in that it was Donnie and
the
Downchild Blues Band who inspired the original Blues Brothers' act . . .
I believe Donnie would get some argument about that from Curtis Salgado.
