[Harp-L] re: what a gig is worth

When Paul McCartney took his first long running gig in Hamburg, he was making
more then 4x the money his dad made in the ship yard. When the Doors played
their first big night club gig in LA they got $300.00, which in 1967 between 3
people was real money. The Grateful Dead were apathetic about a record
contract initially because they were making good money touring.

For that matter, in the old days there were many good paying day jobs playing
music. The musicians union was strong as well.

Times have changed and it's very hard to make a living playing music.
