get an MXR 10 band EQ pedal.  Set your EQ for the sound you like.

I run three 12ax7 pre-amps so I have some serious bite when I need it.

My settings are
Plugged into normal channel one
Norm Vol - 3-4
Bright Vol - 6-8
treble - 3
bass - 8-10 depending on the room.
Mid - 10
Presence - 4-6
