There is a terrific overview of Wayne Raney, written by Pete
Sheridan, in the new issue of AHN. This is one guy who blues players
should not overlook in their studies, even though he's normally
associated with the traditional country crowd. A remarkable player.
There are two great collections of his work available on Amazon, or
his work with the Delmore Brothers can also be retrieved there. TOM

I second Tom's appraisal of Raney.

Not be overlooked is the participation in many of these recordings of
another very fine harmonica player, Lonnie Glosson. Frequently Raney
and Glosson will play harmonica duets for both the opening and the
solo break of the tune, with Glosson chording rhythmically behind
Raney's vocal the remainder of the time.

Many of these recordings are in a so-called "hillbilly boogie" style
that presages the advent of both rockabilly and rock'n'roll.
