[Harp-L] John Mayal
Garry Hodgson writes:
"i agree with all of this. but i would also point people to
"the turning point". beautiful album, with only a little harp but
great sax, guitar, vocals and songwriting. much of it is quiet,
moody, introspective. great stuff."
This is by far my favorite album from mayall - and this is one of those
records that almost everybody likes, even people who aren't really into
blues at all.
WVa Bob writes:
"just checked out the site and followed the links to the bass player's
site...his sister is Lucy Van Sickle, a good harp player who used to be--and
I think still is--active in the Pittsburg Pa scene...I think Sam from
Pittsburg knows her."
yeah, I do. She was friends with my sister in the early '80s when I met
her. I was fooling around a lot with the Chromatic at that time and she was
real interested in hearing what I was doing so we met for a beers a couple
of times and talked harp and traded riffs. I met her and a club called the
Blind Pig last summer, at a jam where she played some. She had recently
returned to the burgh after playing in a band in the Carolinas I believe.
She's a good harp player.
