Hi Mike.........The statutory rate (careful when you say that)is .08 cents per
song per copy. So if you do one song and print 1000 copies, it costs you $80.
The $80 usually goes to the publishng company handling the song for the artist.

Go to http://www.harryfox.com for more information. You can pick the songs you
are covering and the Harry Fox Agency will collect and distribute the royaly
payments.

For songs that are not included in the Harry Fox catalogue (which is extensive),
you might try the label the song appears on, or you can find the songwriter and
pay them directly. We covered a version of "Dangerous Mood" by Keb Mo. Turns
out he had a partner in that effort, Candace Parker. We paid Keb through the
Harry Fox Agency and had to track down Ms. Parker. Quite a challenge. BTW,
she is a wonderful writer and really nice person to boot. She was so pleased
with our cover. Anyway you go, use some forms that contain all the proper
legalese. You may find some here; http://www.musicianassist.com

If they don't have them, contact me off list and I'll send you what we used.

Best Regards to All,
