[Harp-L] Scat Singers

Is there a "syllabus" of scat? Not really, although certain syllables popularized by Dizzy were
picked up by other singers like Eddie Jefferson: Ool ya koo, oop pa pa da, blee ya ba da, and
oo-bla-dee.

Dave Lambert was one of the best scat singers ever. If you can find his live solo rendition of
Cherokee you'll be amazed. And he's also featured on many fine Lambert, Hendricks and Ross
recordings. He also recorded one of the first jazz vocal instruction records called "Sing Along
Swing Along with Dave Lambert" but its incredibly rare to the point I can guarantee you'll never
find it. (Yes I own a copy.)

Leo Watson was one of the first modern scatters after Louis Armstrong. He was a trombone player
with a stream-of-consciousness scat style full of joyous abandon.
