I don't know if it made me a better musician, but I can scat anything I 
can play and I still can't play everything I can scat.  <g>

There's no magic to it.  It's just another form of improvising.  A few 
people to listen to:  Louis Armstrong, King Pleasure; Eddie Jefferson; 
Lambert, Hendrix, and Ross; Anita O'Day; Sarah Vaughn; Cliff Edwards; 
Slim Gaillard.  There are a lot more, but that's a start.

There's no canonical set of syllables.  It's a matter of what works for 
you.  They should have easy to sing vowels and some should begin with 
percussive consonants.
