Maybe I can 'deconstruct' a couple layers that appear to me. It's 12-bar
blues throughout: kicks off, then eleven choruses - each one 12 bars (of
course) and around 17 seconds long. By the time the twelfth starts, the mix
is already faded almost all the way out. You could say the tune as a whole
is based on the key of F with alternating two-chorus sections, the second of
which kind of 'moves' to the relative minor (D-minor). I say 'kind of'
because not all the instruments seem to commit to it and the retuned C-based
harp (magic and patented <g>) that's used has the modal edge taken off.
So using an A and B chorus scheme it would be like this:
AA BB AA BB AA B...
Not considering the retuning into "magical" qualities, the rough guide could
be:
A = Bb harp - 2nd pos.
B = C harp - 12th pos. (if you like to think of this section as F) or 3rd
pos. (if you vote for Dm)
My head hurts, so I'm going to quit. But here's a hint for that C harp -
turn it into a F harp with a little retuning - that's what I think MD did..
