I think Muddy Waters sang it in A.  I like to sing it in E, but that's a 
 little low for a some people.  G or A probably work better for an 
average  male voice.  It's not classical music. <g> The key you play it 
in should be the best key for the singer.  A soprano or a counter tenor 
would want a different key from the above.
