Sometimes during my XB-Melody experiments, I'll stumble across something cool that's also playable
on an ordinary Melody Maker diatonic without necessarily needing the XB-40's extra bends.
How many of you have tried using a Melody Maker's 3 blow as your tonic? (I bet Richard Hunter
has!) I hesitate to call this 4th position, but on a C Melody Maker you would be playing in the
key of A so I guess that's 4th.
But 4th position on a Melody Maker sounds nothing like the Aeolian minor of Richter 4th. Instead
you get this cool bluesy latin sound with lots of nice chord fragments.
Listen to this demo of "Watermelon Man" played in the key of F on my Ab XB-Melody. You probably
don't have an Ab Melody Maker laying around, but if you've got a C Melody Maker that you gave up
on a long time ago, dig it out and try "Watermelon Man" in the key of A!
