  I'm not from Austin but I lived there on and off for a number of years  a little over 10 years ago. my brother's a working musician in austin  and has a band you would probably know of but i dont want to bring it  up in a post.
  
  we used to hang out at a bar on 5th or 6th, i can't remember which,  called Raven's. they had live rattlesnakes in a glass aquarium, and a  bouncer named bubba that carried a pickax handle. know if it's still  there?

I would agree - but that's where I gig. Also, saw a few bands from NOLA
after Katrina down on 6th street.
