Re: [Harp-L] notes, piano tuning and such
The confusion regarding enharmonic spellings of notes is that, in equal temperament, they sound the same to the human ear. (B# sounds exactly the same as C).
The different "spellings" are due to the rules of harmony that determine how music is written.
When singing or playing the violin as a solo instrument (without piano or any other accompaniment), the B# might sound diffent than the C in a very pure sense, but I wonder how many people exist that would actually hear the difference or make a comment/complaint about it.
Once again, this is an area that mixes theoretical clinical definitions with what can truly be heard in the real world by real human beings.

I am going to do something that I rarely do, shout. "B# IS NOT THE SAME
AS C". I know, it may be over-reacting, but they are not the same
thing.
