It's amazing how a small change inequipment chan affect tone.  On the advice of a friend,  I swapped one of my pre-amp 12ax7's for a 12ay7.  My tone suddenly became what I was reaching for.  Ya wouldn't think that little piece of glass would make such a difference.  Of course the one billion hours that I've driven my wife nuts, working  on my acoustic tone may have  also helped.
