A while back I used to play with a Boss OC-2 octave pedal. I have
since sold it but find myself hankering after that sound sometimes. What
other choices are there out there for octave / pitch shifting?

The Digitech RP series pedals do excellent pitch shifting (+1 octave to
-1 octave, and everything in between) and are reasonably priced, with
the RP100A available new for $US 100 and the RP200A for $US 150. The
difference between the two is that the RP200A has an expression pedal,
which can be used (among other things) for fading the pitch-shifted
notes in and out under foot control.
Either unit lets you set the balance between pitch-shifted and original
tones. Either unit responds nearly instantly to the entire range of the
harmonica, and will pitch-shift entire chords as well as single notes,
with excellent pitch tracking.
The sound is not the same as the OC-2, which I also own. The OC-2 will
only track single notes, and has a much more "synthetic" quality to the
sound. The RP pedals basically give you a harmonica sound, pitched up
or down, as desired. If you want to make the harp sound like a synth,
get the OC-2; if you want the harp to sound like a bigger, lower-pitched
harp, get an RP.
