Re: [Harp-L] Help I'm being electricuted!
Musicians:
The way to test for a POTENTIALLY LETHAL ungrounded amp is
with a NEON bulb. The most convenient form has the bulb in a
plastic thingy with two wires sticking out of the other end.
Hold onto the end of one of the wires and touch the other wire
to the chassis of the gear you want to check. A good place for
this is the input jack. If it's plastic, you may plug a mic into
it but put the mic where it's not touching any other metal.
You can check a mic in a stand with this same trick.
Just be sure YOU aren't touching the thing you're testing or
anything else. (OK, you can be standing on the floor.)
If the bulb glows, the gear is NOT grounded.
This glow will be dim and you'll need to make a little dark place
at the bottom of your partly clenched hand.
I have a drawing posted if you want to make a handy little one
to drop in your gig box:

If you like this idea but it presents a challenge, send me a
SASE and I'll give you one - I think it's THAT important.
