Jason is right, you can play dorian mode in 3rd position. Still, a dorian tuned
harp can be a lot of fun.

A lot of Maceo Parker's horn lines are dorian. They are also polyphonic-meaning
Fred Wesley and Pee Wee Ellis added harmonies--harmonies available on the
dorian tuned, not available on a standard diatonic.

Dorian allows one to play E minor, D maj, and C maj chord progressions. It lets
you play 3/4 of the Doors tunes with the A minor and the D maj chord.You can
play a couple different inversions of an Amin chord, you can get a nice A
min7,All the notes for an A min9 are right there, and you can easily go from A
min to a bridge in D playing a D chord and a C chord quite nicely.F# octaves. C
octaves. Heck if you want you can play the devil's interval with the C and the
B.Try for a 10th.

Certainly no one needs a dorian tuned harp. It's just fun. A new toy. A
different crayon. Sometime when you're bored, put one together and start
