Re: [Harp-L] dorian tuned harp

What????
What A minor harp do you use? Natural? Harmonic?
And what position provides the A Dorian scale?
I know I should be able to figure this stuff out
on my own, but I'm lazy and confused.

Thanks!!!!

Charles

  Subject: [Harp-L] dorian tuned harp

I finally built an A dorian tuned harp, following instructions from Richard
Hunter. It was simple--just put the blow reeds from a D Lee Oskar (the top
reeds)into an A minor harp. I've been playing all day for two days. It's a
wonderful sound. Yes, dorian is easy enough with 3rd position but a dorian
tuned harp gives some wonderful octaves and chords--really sounds like a horn
section. Also Dorian is easier than the natural minor because it makes the two
hole bend and the three hole bend the same as a regular diatonic.

I have to commend Tombo. Taking a Lee Oskar apart was simple--I only needed a
Phillips head jeweler screwdriver. It's almost impossible to put the reed
plates on wrong. I also like their tuning. Everyone in my band uses a tuner,
the Lee Oskars are right on right out of the box, nice set up, easy to work on,
no gapping needed.I also like the plastic comb and the support that keeps the
covers from getting squished.I've played Lee Oskars for years, but after taking
one apart, I realized how well thought out the whole system is. A class act.
  Good quality control.

As I was driving to rehearsal Bad Company's "Ready for Love" was on the radio
and I had just the right harp for the song. I love dorian tuning.
