I own Ipod, cassette and mindisc players.

One consideration is that the Ipod records in .wav (or aiff format..not 
sure). What this means is that the files will be huge and you may run 
out of space easily. And once you get it home, what are you going to do 
with it? Leave it on the Ipod, you may not have much room left for any 
other music. If you go to several jams and try to record, you might 
need one Ipod for each jam!! Plus you cannot edit on the Ipod.  You can 
transfer from Ipod to your computer using third party software though, 
I have done it.

a more logical choice, IMO would be the mindisc. You can use the 
minidisc with the mike of your choice and record to cheap minidisc 
formats, the minidiscs are a few dollars for tons of recording time. 
Plus, when finished, you can subdivide,  name or erase tracks on the 
player itself. A great way to pass the time while you are on the plane 
on the way home

regarding cassettes--FORGET THEM. I have not used them in years. They 
are noisy, have degradation issues and generally useless except in cars 
that do not have cd players.
