A troll is not a noun, it's a verb.  Troll is often conflated to mean 
one of those short ugly things that hang around under bridges being 
generally curmudgeonly and harasssing billy goats at every turn. 
Trolling is a style of posting.  Derived from lets go trolling in our 
trawler as in fishing.  Trolls are a type of post designed to elicit a 
response.  Oddly baiting the list.  Trolls can be malignant or benign. 
A listowner might post trying to spark a discussion on a particular 
topic, that would be a benign troll.  An example of a malignant troll 
would be Jahn Pawper is a terrible harmonica player and why does he call 
that dumb band bluz trvler they don't play blues at all?  Most of the 
trolling that has occured on this list is of a much more subtle nature. 
Clearly the quickest way to pull the rug out from under a trolling 
poster is to simply not respond at all.  The response is what they're in 
it for.  Another form of trolling is attempting to provoke controversy 
or a fight.  fjm
