Re: [Harp-L] Doug Randall

<<Doug is mainly known for his diatonic playing. However, it might not be
known that Doug was a veteran of harmonica bands from his very early days.
He played chromatic equally as well as diatonic and was familiar with all of
the great harmonica arrangements. He would never cease to amaze me by
pulling out intricate melodies and passages on his chromatic for me.>>
Amen, Mike. Doug's harmonica talents were broad and he zig-zagged across
musical boundaries with ease on both the chromatic and diatonic harp. From
modern hard driving blues on back to 1940's style harmonica ensemble playing,
ethnic folk music, and jazz, Doug had it all going on.
<<I don't know if there are any recordings of Doug's playing, but there
should
be.>>
I know of one for certain -- He played with a local blues band called 'Big G
and the Real Deal' and they made a CD a couple of years ago called Chicago
Nocturne. Not sure of availability right now. There may be other recordings
too. His many friends here in Chicago and elsewhere will be on the hunt.
