Re: [Harp-L] overblow begginner question
Hammer,
Although I'm not one of the OB gurus on the list, I think I can answer
this, it does help to set up your harp specifically for OBing, as a fluid
execution of this technique relies heavily on "properly" gapped reeds.
A quick answer is that, if you aren't using a custom made harp and want
the best "out of the box" harp for OB (still will need tweaking but not a
much as the others)....the answer used to be GOLDEN MELODY!
Is that still THE answer OB Guys????? let us know if that's changed on
the new GM's......thanx to all
there should be a world of GOOD posts in the archives on this, but there
are a few Brands that are NOT too OB friendly.....Lee Oskar comes to mind
etc...good luck,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Subject: [Harp-L] overblow begginner question
Hi -
I am a fairly experienced blues harp player and I am trying to teach
myself to overblow, with the help of the various websites (if any one can
suggest more of these-thanks!) - so far without great results.
My question is : is it absolutely neccessary to have your harp
specifically "set up" for overblowing, or can I use my regular harps .
What I am trying to understand is if it`s just my technique that`s wrong
or if I need to alter my harps. ( I might add that I am clueless as to all
matters of tweaking and repairing harps)
The harps I am using at the moment are mostly Hering vintage 1923s and
some Hohner MBs and Big River`s. Is it possible to OB on these without
major tweaking?
Thanks for any tips
Hammer
