Re: [Harp-L] overblow begginner question
Its pretty hard to learn without tweaking, you wouldn't want to play that
way anyway. You need to close the gap on 4 and 5 and 6 etc.. Just for
initial learning I would recommend you close the gap to the point where the
4, 5 and 6 holes feel a little blocked when you blow hard. Typically, that
is a very low gap. Sort of like taking the gap of the 9 hole and putting it
on the 4. As you get better, you can increase the gap.
A good tip to get started is to remove the cover and overblow while holding
down the reed in the slot. (From Howard site somewhere)
G's site provides gapping instruction and Howard Levy and Tinus have good
advice also.

Subject: [Harp-L] overblow begginner question
Hi -
I am a fairly experienced blues harp player and I am trying to teach
myself to overblow, with the help of the various websites (if any one can
suggest more of these-thanks!) - so far without great results.
My question is : is it absolutely neccessary to have your harp
specifically "set up" for overblowing, or can I use my regular harps .
What I am trying to understand is if it`s just my technique that`s wrong
or if I need to alter my harps. ( I might add that I am clueless as to all
matters of tweaking and repairing harps)
The harps I am using at the moment are mostly Hering vintage 1923s and
some Hohner MBs and Big River`s. Is it possible to OB on these without
major tweaking?
Thanks for any tips
Hammer
