RE: [Harp-L] fireball
Right, it's all about expectations. It seems that SonnyJr is slamming the
mic because it's not a gritty "blues" mic. Well it clearly states that this
is not its purpose! It was built as a harp mic from chromatic, blues, jazz,
whatever. For those of us who need to play different styles, a good mic
perhaps. Since I have to play different styles, what if I bought a Sonny Jr.
amp and then reviewed it saying "Wow, what a piece of crap this is for my
jazz playing! It's all bottomy and distorted and grainy! Call me when you
build a *real* jazz amp!" That would be pretty unfair, wouldn't it. If I was
a blues-only player, you bet I'd have a great blues mic and amp. And I might
for blues-only playing. This mic fits a niche for me - portable, extensible,
built for harp. I haven't tried it yet, but I intend to. If I have to do a
mixed gig, I'll run it through the Harp Commander and dial up the switch for
a tube-amp blues tone. The SM58 is great (actually I like the 57 better,
unidirectional so I get less feedback), but if this mic is less prone to
feedback than those as advertised, and sounds as good for all purpose use,
then I'm sold. It's smaller for easier cupping/tone and more portable (oh
yeah and it looks better, for what that's worth buried in your hands!).
Also, get to support the manufacturers building harp-specific equipment,
which I think is important.

Sonny, you're the lone dissenter here. Seems like everyone else who's tried
the mic absolutely loves it. After Michael P's message last night, I was
about ready to pull out my wallet. Guess I'll have to hold off a
bit.....Mark
