[Harp-L] Harp-L] Re: a question for all you toungue blockers outthere...

Hi all,
I for one have to say how much i've enjoyed following
this thread and sincerely appreciate all the
contributions made by the great and the good on the
list.
The take home advice has been invaluable to me and the
encouragement immense.
Personally i have just about managed to squeeze out my
first ob(AT least i think its an ob) on 6 on a cheap
silver star harp (c)using a pucker .This is the
emboucure i started harp with.
Having become reasonably adept at TB through
perserverence as opposed to inate talent I feel that,
intervals and octaves aside(which do sound great) the
beauty of TB is when one is using it as a counterpoint
playing under the melody note. This is particularly so
when riffing / shuffling down at the first three or
four holes and doing that sort of "lost john" choked
harp which inolves TB the 3 draw bend and alternately
lifting the tongue off and putting it back.
Listen to J.R'S "Goenophiney" for a tour de force
example of counterpoint playing amongst other things.
This use of TBing can truely fatten out and embellish
a players sound and is worth pursuing. It can indeed
take some time to get a hold of Tb but it is well
worth it.
Just my 50 euros worth.
Regards.Sean
