Hi Winslow,
I use gravity to fix the dry mouth/wet mouth. For me
it works, hope it might help you. Normal playing
posture for me is straight up, weather sitting or
standing, not to say I always stay there. If I get dry
I'll bend over so that my jaw is lower then shoulder
level. The liquid will flow.
Lower you go more the flow. Too much juice, stand up
straight and raise your chin. Adjust as needed.
Of course eat and drink properly before hand.
. . . and then I think of the old movie Gunga Din when
it was time to charge and the Officer signaled the
bungle player to blow "charge" and the poor chap had
cotton mouth from the heat of battle, (as some might
get on stage) So he turns to the bugle boy and
yells,"spit boy, spit!"
You can use that same gland pumping motion as you
would when trying to produce spit, but to a lesser
degree, while playing. Just don't forget, "don't spit
into the wind or tug on Supermans cape."
