Re: [Harp-L] Low-Keyed Harps

Johnny -

Just off the top of my head....

I like Charlie Musselwhite's work on John Hammond's version of Tom
Waite's "Clap Hands" (everyone follow that train of thought?) Very dark
and moody. There are a couple juicy low harp tunes on William Clarke's
"Blowin' Like Hell." Jason Ricci uses low harps to really nice effect,
though I can't remember if he uses them on Feel Good Funk or not, and I
haven't heard his newer cds yet, but they're all over his live shows on
archive.org.

I'm sure I'll think of more after I send this, but I'm also sure you'll
get plenty of good gems from this list.

I've been working more and more with low-keyed harps in recent
years--like
many other players, I think--exploring the horn-like tones to be found
one
octave down, and finding it a great way to play jazz and funk-oriented
stuff in
particular. I know of one terrific track by Big Walter--Under the Sun,
from the
album he cut with Carey Bell--in which he plays Low C, and I'm curious
to hear
more...Can anyone steer me towards other tracks cut with low-keyed
harps?

Peace and Respect,
Johnny T
