RE: [Harp-L] Dry mouth on fast tunes - remedies?:my personnal experience

Hi Winslow,
I first have been thinking to write offlist but it
would be interesting to have other players point of
view (Steve Shaw and James Conway particularly).

I have had the same problem as yours few years back,
busking with irish music with my harmonica.

You must learn to keep your throat wet while your
mouth is drying. A bit of vaseline might be useful (no
joke
please ;-)

Meanwhile, you can drink some thick liquid (Honey,
maple sirup, shoeshine...) to help your ;outh and
throat to dry less faster.

You can also eat a salty food (peanuts...) just before
playing. This will make you salivate, but it may also
stick food into your harp.

You may also need to do what Allen Holmes call the
"french cow". He called me like that after he saw I
was not moving the harmonica but my jaw instead.
Like that, I kep airtight embouchure and it remains
wet longer.
I keep my upper lip on the harmonica, without moving
it, and I move my jaw to the left or to the right to
go to the right note. Just like
You may need to train your muscles as you'll get tired
soon and you are note used to such moves
