[Harp-L] Born in Chicago (XB-Melody)
When I was thinking up the tuning for the XB-Melody, it was supposed to be optimized for playing
jazz in 2nd position. Once I actually had my Bb XB-Melody in hand, however, I found that it was
also very nice for playing in C and several other keys including A!
A on a Bb harp! What is that, 11th position?
I've uploaded an example at
http://www.bebopradio.com
I'm ape-ing Butterfield's solo on "Born in Chicago" note-for-note, just to prove it can be done in
this very strange position! Of course I can't match Butter's tone or phrasing, but the notes are
pretty much all there!
Please check it out and tell me what you think.
