Subject: [Harp-L] Trad Chicago Blues in D
Hi there,
I'm currently working on a few Blues songs played by Little Walter, Big
Walter, Paul Butterfield, Sonny Boy Williamson & Junior Wells.
What I'd like to have is just one song by anyone of these guys, in key of
D
played in second position on a G harmonica. I've been rifling through my
collection and everything in D by these guys is usually done 3rd position
on
a 16 hole chromatic. I already have plenty of 3rd position material to
work
with. Any suggestions?

Hi,
Little Walter's "Last Night," (not the alternate take with no harp on it) is
done with a G diatonic in 2nd position, and Sonny Boy Williamson's "Trust My
Baby," is also with a G diatonic in 2nd (although from the unusally deep
tone of the acoustic harp, I'm pretty sure he's using a 364/365 Marine Band
in G for this). Also parts of Little Walter's instrumentals "Blue Lights,"
"Thunderbird," and "Flying Saucer" uses a key of G diaonic in 2nd position
for it. On Junior Wells' "Hoodoo Man Blues" CD he recorded for Delmark in
the mid 60's, on the slow blues instrumental, he's definitely using a key of
G diatonic for a good part of it also. Those are just a few things off the
top of my head.
